Here’s the board you never knew you needed because you never knew it existed. This is the earliest roots of Blockhead from late 1984 when we were prototyping shapes from Z-blanks I’d buy at Go Skate or reshaping old boards. The only prototype I have with the “Cubed” graphic is this one in the photo which I’m pretty sure that my younger brother Kevin cut down from an old Zorlac Double Cut board. I’m fairly certain Kevin cut it because it’s pretty damn wonky! Ha!
For this reissue the idea was to make the shape as if it actually made it to production. It was sized up and I picked the best half and smoothed out the kinks but retained it’s “stinger” shape.
For the graphics I actually still have the original “film”, a primitive hodgepodge of graphic tape, electrical tape and cut and stick Letraset and Letratone lettering and lines…yeah I really was just making it up as I went along. This art predates the one we’ve been calling “Blockhead 84”, I really love the simplicity of it. I can’t recall if I first printed this in the garage or in my screen printing class at Sierra College where I learned the basics.
For the colors I stuck with the idea of this board going into production in 1985 so I added a couple more colors, the new wave turquoise/ pink and the more punky red/white to make them fit the era. For the purists we also did some with just the black print like the original.
As much as I’d love to be the only person in the world with a board with this graphic I decided I’d like to share this with you and give you a chance to own a reproduction of the oldest historical evidence of the company I started up 40 years ago in my parents garage. Don’t miss out as there were only 20 of each color combo printed and these won’t be made ever again!
Much thanks for all your support over the past 40 years!
